Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake': white catmint for soft summer edges

A pale-flowered catmint with a gentle outline

Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' brings aromatic leaves, low mounding growth and white summer flowers that give catmint planting a lighter mood. The flowers sit in light spires above grey-green foliage, so the plant feels fresh and airy in sunny borders. It is especially useful where violet-blue catmints would feel too cool or too strong beside pale planting schemes.

Use Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' along border fronts, path edges, cottage-style beds and containers that need a relaxed perennial with a lighter flower tone. It pairs well with silver leaves, soft pink perennials, compact grasses, pale salvias and small roses. Bees and other insects visit the flowers in summer, and the foliage adds scent when brushed. The plant has enough seasonal value for decorative use while staying practical for low, repeated planting.

Growth, size and what the plant looks like through the year

Mature Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' usually reaches roughly 30 to 45 cm high with a spread around 40 to 50 cm when established. Spring growth begins as a fresh mound of scented foliage. Flower stems then rise in summer and create a light haze of white above the leaves. After trimming, new foliage gives the plant a second clean phase that can carry the border into later summer.

In pots, growth usually stays more restrained than in open ground. In a pot, Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' becomes a neat rounded filler with a soft edge. A broad container suits the naturally domed shape and gives the crown room to widen. Give it room at the front of a mixed display, where the white flowers can sit just above the rim and the leaves receive good light.

Soil, light and watering detail for Snowflake catmint

Full sun gives the strongest flowering, but partial shade is also suitable where the site remains bright. Moist but well-drained soil suits this plant well, especially where summer moisture is moderate and winter drainage stays open. Chalk, clay and loam can suit it when the surface sheds water cleanly around the crown. A raised edge, amended clay bed or sloped border can all work when water drains away after rain.

  • Light: Choose full sun or bright partial shade for balanced growth.
  • Moisture: Keep new plants evenly watered during establishment.
  • Drainage: Moist but well-drained soil supports roots through winter.
  • Pot cue: Water containers when the top 20 to 30% of pot depth has dried.
  • Soil pH: Acid, neutral and alkaline soils are all acceptable.
  • Feeding: Use a light feed in spring for pots; border plants need little input.

In open ground, established plants cope with some dry summer weather, but flowering is better when the plant is kept away from severe drought. For containers, soak the root ball fully when watering, then let the upper layer dry again. A gritty component in the potting mix keeps oxygen around the roots and helps the crown stay firm after wet spells.

Trimming, spacing and problem signals

Space plants about 50 cm apart when using Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' as a border edge. A single plant also works well in a sunny pot or beside a small shrub. After the first main flower flush, shear back spent stems and lightly shape the mound. Fresh leaves follow quickly, and later flowers may appear when summer remains warm. In late winter or early spring, remove old stems before new growth extends.

Weak flowering usually means the site is too shaded or the plant was left carrying tired stems after the first display. Floppy growth often points to rich soil, excess feeding or a sheltered site with low air movement. Browning at the crown is usually a drainage warning. Older clumps can be lifted and divided in spring if they become woody, open in the middle or less flower-rich.

Best uses and final fit

Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' is useful where a white-flowered plant can soften an edge at low height. It gives contrast beside blue salvias, pink geraniums, silver stachys, low grasses and darker-leaved heucheras. In a container, it can calm brighter annuals and give a perennial base that returns each year. The pale flowers also show well at dusk, especially near seating or along a walkway.

Choose Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' for sunny planting that needs catmint ease with a lighter colour palette. Give it a bright site, well-drained soil with some moisture and a trim after flowering, and it rewards with scented foliage and a clean white summer display. Add Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' to borders or pots when you want airy flowers, aromatic leaves and a soft, low perennial shape.

Colour pairing and container notes

White catmint is especially helpful in plantings built around softer colours. Nepeta racemosa 'Snowflake' can lift dusk borders, brighten the front of a bed and make pink, blue or purple flowers feel cleaner. It also works beside darker foliage, where the white flowers create contrast in a light, open way. Use it in small groups if you want a repeated pale rhythm, or as a single plant in a container where the flower stems can hover above the rim.

In pots, the plant appreciates a steady moisture rhythm with good drainage after each watering. A mix that holds some water but drains cleanly is ideal. During hot weeks, water thoroughly once the upper 20 to 30% of pot depth is dry, then let air return to the upper mix. A light trim after flowering keeps the plant from carrying tired stems and helps the white-flowered mound look fresh again.

Best Blanket Ever!!
Color: 16- Dusty Pink, Size: Twin (60" X 80"), Color: 16- Dusty Pink, Size: Twin (60" X 80")
I am in LOVE with this blanket. I got the dusty Rose, the color is Spot On to the pics. It's perfect size, I bought the twin size. It's reversible, and is Super Soft. Plus, No Shedding. Well made, perfect blanket, it's thick yet but not overly making it perfect for year round. Definitely, worth the money. I sleep great with it. It's so pretty, I love it. Will but again in other colors as well.

Extrmely comfortable and my wife absolutely loved it. Probably the most comfortable blanket i've ever bought. Now if only she would share it with me! Kidding...but I absolutely suggest this, if you're looking for a heavyish very soft and comfortable blanket.

You will not regret buying this blanket!
Color: Aqua, Size: Queen/King Size - 80" X 90"
I was actually looking for a cotton blanket to add to my bed for fall and winter. Then I came across THIS one. It happens to be the exact shade of (“seaglass” or teal or aqua or whatever you choose to call it) blue green that I am currently redoing my bedroom in. It was a teense more than I’d planned to spend on this project. But I was in a splurgey mood so I went for it. I can honesty say that I’d happily pay twice as much. It’s much more beautiful and much more insanely soft than it looks in the pictures. While I don’t know how the blanket feels about me, I can assure you that I am madly in love with this gorgeous thing! I can’t wait for it to cool off in Southern California so I can roll myself up in it. Maybe I’ll crank the A/C down to 50 degrees and pretend there are more than two seasons (summer and late summer) in California. Anyway, this would make a great gift. It would make a great gift for yourself. Self care is important! Spoil yourself! You, at the very least, deserve a cozy cuddly blanket. I’m certain that this luxurious blanket will cure insomnia. Maybe even depression. I’ve owned it for like 2 hours and I have a whole new outlook on life! I feel pampered, spoiled, like queen of the world, maybe even like Cleopatra! I think that it should be obvious by now that I’m giving this furry looking blanket two thumbs way way up! Sometimes I order things from Amazon and by the time they arrive Ive already forgotten about them. I was anxiously awaiting my blanket friends arrival and I was prepared to be very meh. Not this time! Nope! Best purchase ever! I know what I’m getting everyone for Christmas! Buy several for future use. This blanket has made me deliriously happy! Update: After owning this blanket for, like, a while, I still love it. Shockingly it washes up beautifully! A word of advice. Fabric softener is a big no no. It gets the fur gummy and feeling like unwashed hair after a month. I imagine. I’ve personally never gone with unwashed hair for more than a day or two. It is at its fluffy and soft best when you use one of those new Downey rinses instead. That seems to remove all residue and it comes out feeling even better than brand new. A word of warning. Do not picnic on this blanket. The fur will encase and preserve your crumbs better than Tupperware. You may find a lost treasure that you don’t actually want in there. Best used for sleeping only.

So soft and pretty Looks great!
Color: Aqua, Size: Throw Size - 50" X 60", Color: Aqua, Size: Throw Size - 50" X 60"
This blanket is wonderful. I'm not sure if it will last or wash well but it's amazing right now. I was looking for something that had a sort of aqua color that would go with my new sheets that are aqua but still blend with my comforter which has more blue tones in it. This worked great as far as the color. I took some pictures and my dog is in them because as soon as I put it on the bed she jumped up and was like "oh thanks Mom ...I love this" That is how soft and luxurious this feels. Others said theirs was shedding. I took mine out of the bag and shook and no shedding. I did have trouble getting it out of the plastic and cut a few pieces with the scissors but once I got it started I just pulled to rip the plastic. I took one pic so you could see the back. I would say it's like a fuzzy microfiber and the color is identical. It's just te right thickness. I love the design. It's warm to lay under but also has a warm look. It was a good value at just under $30. I know some people said it did not wash well but I'll be super careful when I wash it and even though it says hang dry I might tumble on a very low or cool dryer so that it does not mat. If it's a disaster I'll come back to report but prob wont wash it for a few months. Oh and no weird smells out of the bag so that was a plus for me since I have chemical sensitivities.
